Doctors For the Environment Report Launch

This week DEA went to Canberra calling for a gas phase out to protect health. They were hosted by Special Envoy the Hon Kate Thwaites, with attendance by Parliamentarians, representatives from medical colleges. health professionals and of course DEA Members.

A big shout out to Dr Anthony Hull for his excellent speech on the health risks of fossil gas in the home and medical student Divyanshi Mohnot for her impassioned speech on the need for climate action, who joined Dr Kate Wylie providing an overview of the report and delivering the call to:

• Provide targeted support to the community to replace gas appliances and disconnect from the gas network
• Establish a clear timeline for phasing out fossil gas and rule out approving new gas projects
• Make the gas industry bear the costs of the health and environmental harms of their product.

The launch was the culmination of months of behind the scenes work, in particular by the authors at the PQRC and the board, and of course by the staff team.
